It was almost a clean sweep for Retra members in this year’s ERT Awards – five Retra dealers and six associate members picked up trophies at the prestigious lunchtime event, which was held in London earlier this month (October 7, Grand Connaught Rooms).
Dorset-based retailer Dacombes of Wimborne did the double, winning the Turning Point Award – given to the dealer who had gone the extra mile to adapt their business and show initiative – and the award for Best Independent Consumer Electronics Retailer – Small.
Best Independent Consumer Electronics Retailer – Large went to Booth Scotland, in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.
In the category for Best Independent Domestic Appliances Retailer – Large, Basil Knipe Electrics in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland won, while Coopers Stores in Bath, Somerset won Best Independent Domestic Appliances Retailer – Small.
The Sales Excellence Award went to Paige Cox from Empire Kitchens and Appliances in Cannock, Staffordshire.
Only one winning retailer wasn’t a Retra member – Freemans Television/Powerbutton, in Portishead, near Bristol, Somerset, who scooped the award for Best Independent Electrical Retailer Website.
On the manufacturer side, all of this year’s winners were Retra associate members:
- Best New Product – Major Domestic Appliances: Beko – A++ 60cm Connected Dishwasher with AutoDose DEN59420D
- Best New Product – Small Domestic Appliances: Panasonic – NN-CD87 Microwave
- Best New Product – Consumer Electronics: Panasonic – GZ2000
- Best Supplier Customer Service: Hoover Candy UK
- Sales Representative Award: Humax – Meena Toor
- Training Provider Award: Beko
The day also featured the Turning Point Live! conference, with a line-up of guest speakers, including leading independent electrical retailers and industry experts in the areas of websites and digital marketing, electrical safety and smart home technology.
Editor of ERT magazine, Jack Cheeseman, said: “Huge congratulations to all of this year’s winners. We had a record number of entries this year, which just goes to show the quality of electrical retailers we have in the industry today.
“With challenging market conditions and consumer confidence, it’s never been more important for retailers to stand out on the high street.
“Winning one of the prestigious ERT awards is a huge achievement and, in this highly competitive arena, a real chance to separate your company from your competitors and shout about everything that you do in order to attract new business opportunities.
“Past retailer winners have gone to great lengths to promote their wins and they’ve reported that customers see this as a huge endorsement that they are shopping with a modern, well-respected, reliable company.”
This year’s ERT Awards sponsors were AWE Europe, Blomberg, Calculus Software Solutions, Electrical Safety First, Hisense, Humax, Retra, Sirius Buying Group, Yamaha and Yusen Logistics. The supporters of the day were AMDEA, Gekko and techUK.
Retra sponsored the Sales Representative Award category.
