Consumer electronics accessories distributor Hama UK has appointed former Roberts Radio boss Owen Watters as its managing director.
He takes over from country manager Paul Irish, who retired from the business earlier this year.
To ensure a smooth handover, Mr Watters worked alongside Mr Irish for several months, meeting with Hama UK and European teams and getting to grips with the new leadership position.
Mr Watters, who left his position of chief executive at Roberts Radio in the summer of 2019, has worked in the CE industry for 25 years. Prior to joining Roberts Radio as sales and marketing director in 2005, he spent almost 10 years at Sony UK.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: “Paul’s leadership has cemented Hama as the leading accessories business in the UK over the past few years and I’m committed to continue his great work and to continue to treasure the core values of the business.”
He added: “Hama’s quality, reliability and exceptional service levels have really set the standard in the category, and it’s a real privilege to join the Hama UK team. I’ve admired Hama for many years and as Europe’s largest CE accessories business, the opportunity to join ‘the family’ was a very easy decision to make.”
This year sees Hama UK celebrating its 30th birthday. The German, family-owned business, which is based in Monheim and has a logistics hub in Wetteren, Belgium, was founded in 1923 – its UK operation started as a small photographic distributor in 1990, but has grown massively since then and now provides almost 9,500 CE accessories to both independent retailers and multiples.
